With the help of Patris (Patris Studios and Gallery) and Mary Kercher (Sacramento Artists)
I bring to you:

Butterfly Collection - Taking Flight

One of my lessons from Speed Studies is painting on new surfaces. It's fun and challenging to break away from the norm and experiment with new textures. Recently, while experimenting, I discovered a new found excitement for painting on cigar boxes.

"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it
attached to the rest of the world"
                                                                      ~John Muir

Using my current series, From The Garden, as a spring board,  I found myself painting a variety of butterflies. I love watching these colorful bugs float around my garden. I've also thought butterfly conservatories and collections are amazing!

The stickers and paper covering the box allow for interesting textures and color combinations. I also like that the box creates its own frame/ raised viewing platform. The box can also be used as a decorative storage container.

The ideas keep coming and I've started to paint other things that fly, including a hummingbird. The hummingbird has always been one of my mom's favorite birds. Since moving to Sacramento it is taking place as one of my favorites too! They zip around my garden and drink from the feeder sitting right outside my studio window.

Like what you see? These little gems are now available for purchase on my Etsy Store.

Whisper In The Wind - ©2011 Original Sold

I often try to create narratives in my paintings. I want to evoke moods and emotions. In this way the viewer can connect on a personal level with my work. The specific story I portray is not important, just as long as the viewer can step into the work and create one.

Mid Summer Delight

Mid Summer Delight - Oil on Canvas - 11x14 - $425.00

When I paint from life, I paint in the moment. I look for the subtle color changes and reflections, often pushing them in saturation. What can I say except, "I love bright colors!" I also time myself while I paint. I find that if I set my alarm in 30 minute increments I tend to paint faster and bolder. I strive for bold brushwork and am happy with the outcome in this piece.

Don't forget Mother's Day is rapidly approaching. Nothing says "I Care" more than snail mail. Now Mid Summer Delight is available in the Spring Pack Greeting Card Collection. The card collection features 6 different paintings from my Garden Series.

All prints and greeting cards are archival quality - Spring Pack - $20 + $3 tax+shipping
Includes: 6 different Garden painting prints/cards, 6 white envelopes, packaged in box. (size: 4.25x5.5)
